Arranging a cremation in Nichols Hills

Families in Nichols Hills can arrange cremation service in Nichols Hills with Alternatives Cremation & Funeral Service without ever leaving town. We bring your loved one into our care from any Nichols Hills address, handle the permit and paperwork, and return the ashes to you. Direct cremation starts at $695, and our office on NW 122nd St is a short drive north on Pennsylvania Avenue.

This is a family business in the plain sense: Richard Varner owns it, and his son Quade works beside him, so the person you meet is the person responsible for your loved one. We are members of the Oklahoma Funeral Directors Association, the ICCFA and the NFDA, and we hand every family our General Price List before anything is chosen.

Nichols Hills has kept its quiet residential character since G. A. Nichols laid it out in 1929, and many families here want a dignified, low-key goodbye that leaves room for a gathering later at church or at the club. Call us to talk it through, with no obligation.

Around Nichols Hills

Knowing Nichols Hills street by street

Nichols Hills is its own city, about two square miles bordered by Oklahoma City on three sides and The Village to the north. The southern half, including Nichols Hills Plaza on Avondale Drive, Kite Park and the Nichols Hills Town Hall, uses the 73116 ZIP code. Homes farther north, around Drake Family Park, carry 73120, the same ZIP code as our office. Its curving streets are named after English towns, a detail from the original 1929 plan.

The hospitals Nichols Hills families use most are INTEGRIS Health Baptist Medical Center on the Northwest Expressway, a few minutes west, and Mercy Hospital Oklahoma City on W Memorial Rd to the north. Nichols Hills is in Oklahoma County, so when a death needs review, the state Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Oklahoma City handles it, and we obtain the cremation permit from that office for you.

Nichols Hills is a city of established homes, and the family member who calls us is often an adult child who grew up on these streets and now lives in another state. We often work with a son or daughter who is flying in from elsewhere, and we keep them informed by phone, text and email so decisions can be made before they land.

Nichols Hills adopted its first city charter in 1959, which kept Oklahoma City from annexing it, and it still keeps strict land use rules, so most families look just outside the city for a cemetery. Many choose Rose Hill Burial Park, founded in 1915 at 6001 NW Grand Blvd just southeast of town, for burial or placement of an urn. For a quiet gathering, the pavilion at Kite Park or the lawn at Margaret Haskell Davis Park are both close to home.

★★★★★

I can't thank alternative cremations enough for the care and respect they treated my dad with. I live in Florida so it was difficult figuring out how I would get fathers ashes but Richard and his son (Quade I think) were so helpful and they worked hard on the holiday weekend to get my fathers ashes to me in Florida in less than a week. Thank you again and I would recommend them to anyone in Oklahoma.

His professionalism and kindness made a difficult process feel manageable, and his attention to detail ensured everything was handled accurately and promptly. From the initial consultation to the final arrangements, they prioritized transparency, empathy, and dignity.
