How cremation works for families in The Village
Yes, you can arrange cremation service in The Village with a funeral home that is practically next door. Alternatives Cremation & Funeral Service sits on NW 122nd St, a short drive north of Duffner Park, and our direct cremation starts at $695. Families from The Village can stop by the office in person, or handle everything by phone and online.
Richard Varner owns the business, and his son Quade serves families with him, so you are dealing with the owners from the first call to the last. We belong to the Oklahoma Funeral Directors Association, the ICCFA and the NFDA, and reviewers regularly mention both of them by name.
Because we are this close, we can often meet a family from The Village the same day, whether that is at a home near Meeker Park, a care community nearby, or our own office. Call whenever you are ready to talk; there is no pressure.
Throughout The Village
The Village, close up
The Village is a separate city of roughly 2.6 square miles, almost entirely surrounded by Oklahoma City, with Nichols Hills along part of its southern edge. The whole town shares one ZIP code, 73120, which takes in Casady Square and Casady School on N Pennsylvania Ave, The Village City Hall on Manchester Drive, and neighborhoods around Harrison Park on Oxford Way. Our office uses the same 73120 ZIP code.
Mercy Hospital Oklahoma City on W Memorial Rd is a short drive northwest of The Village, and INTEGRIS Health Baptist Medical Center on the Northwest Expressway is to the southwest. The Village has its own police department, and it lies in Oklahoma County, so if a death requires review, the state Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Oklahoma City is involved. We take care of the cremation permit from that office for you.
Much of The Village was built after 1949, when Clarence E. Duffner platted the first addition, and many homes here have stayed in the same family for decades. About 9,500 people lived here at the 2020 census. Families often want a calm, practical plan, and the people helping them are frequently grown children who moved away.
The Village was incorporated in January 1950 by a vote of just seven residents, six of them in favor, and it still runs its own city hall and parks. For ashes, families commonly choose a cemetery elsewhere in Oklahoma City or keep them at home, and many hold a gathering at a city park pavilion such as Duffner Park. Lake Hefner, just west, belongs to the City of Oklahoma City, so check its rules before scattering there.

From the very first phone call, their kindness and professionalism was amazing. I truly felt like they cared for my family and I during the very difficult time of our mother's passing. Very informative, thorough and helpful.
